Countertops are one of the most used surfaces in any kitchen or bathroom and, as such, will inevitably wear off over time. Whether you have granite, quartz, laminate, or marble, you’ll need proper maintenance to keep them as good as new, as if they were just installed yesterday.
Clean Spills Immediately
This is one of the easiest steps in counter maintenance. Wipe spills right away. Liquids like wine, oil, or coffee can leave stains. Wash with a soft cloth and soap, not with complicated chemicals. That will ruin the surface.
Use Cutting Boards and Trivets
Never chop on your countertops, regardless of how strong they are. Always do it on cutting boards to avert scratches and damage. Never place hot pans and pots on the surface; use trivets to prevent heat marks or cracking.
Seal Natural Stone Regularly
If your counters are natural stone, such as granite or marble, sealing them regularly is necessary. This stops moisture and stains from seeping into the porous surface. Figure out how often your particular material must be sealed by a professional or through your manufacturer’s recommendations.
Avoid Abrasive Cleaners
Although counters will need to be cleaned, abrasive cleaners or scrubbers will dull or wear off the finish. Keep them brand new and sparkling using only non-abrasive cloths and pH-neutral cleaners.
Taking care of your countertops not only keeps them gorgeous but also makes the whole room attractive. A little extra effort does go a long way in keeping them flawless so your kitchen or bathroom can be the room’s centerpiece for decades to come.
